Question

Hello.
I use brazed tools and I am interested in trying some inserted tools but I’m unsure of the cost. I mainly do mild steel and a bit of maintenance work.
Thank you.
Tom

Answer

Tom, Hi

We offer a broad range of indexable solutions and brands to cater for you needs. If you check out the Walter price list on our information and update section it should give you a guide on costs of tool holders and inserts. I’d estimate a basic holder would be £60-£90 depending on the size of holder required and internal or external machining and inserts to be approx £7 per insert. Please do bear in mind, the range of grades and chip breakers mean productivity will increase considerably over your brazed tool systems. This may not be a high importance for general maintenance but the peace of mind of knowing once you have bought the correct tooling, you’ll have an answer for most applications just by changing the insert in contact with the job.

Another thing to bear in mind is the insert will have a number of edges, varying from 2 to 6 or even 8 in some cases, so this could make an insert cost less than £1 per edge. I have attached a PDF to help show you some examples.

If you need help selecting the tooling please do call or email and we’ll do all we can to help.
